So I tried sounding for the first time. It was a custom request (originally it was a messy request, but I was a bit scared, so it's not a wam video), but he was very understanding. He let me use a sounding rod of my choice, and got my real first reactions lol. I did a lot of research before committing, but I'm happy I gave it a try.
