You do need a ton of light. You can spot the ones where I used less light. The ones with the deepest color were with two double-headed shop lights bouncing off the ceiling. That's a lot of electricity... Keep them off the same circuit! On the plus side, you can open the windows turn off the heat while you're shooting. (It just got dang cold here in IL.)

We used olive oil for both colors, and it came out easily with dish soap. I've never used gel before, but it's certainly possible that it's the culprit. There might have been something else in it that let it penetrate your hair instead of floating on top.

I've had a case of silver-head before. The trick is to load up a sponge with the dish soap and thoroughly rub it into your hair before running the water. If your hair is wet first, the soap will rinse out the oil but leave the metallic powder.
