Yes... the river's usually this low in August, then higher to floodier in September through to July. Totally different cycle thank usual!
Photo: 06-05 And... the si... where's the sink?10/13/24report

Just hanging out with my otter frens!

(seriously, saw another at the end of this set, swimming - and that pic was just a complete miss or so bad a focusing that I can't even tell where the otter was - and then on the shore - where she just moved too fast for me to attempt the focus! The phone condom does a great job keeping the phone dry, but the touchscreen is... touchy... )

I am, 100%! I kinda always thought I really wanted to go back home to New England... but a few weeks back I realized I really love my river here, even more than some of my past rivers in this state and back where I'm from.

It's hard to get the perspective, and I'm sure I arched a bit, but... I'm at close to a 45 degree angle, leaning back, with the silt keeping me from landing on my ass! x-D

Yes! Oh! You can see the mark that deeper quicksand left when I tried to climb out there!
Photo: 05-27 Rentry: dry10/11/24report
You got the reference!
Photo: 05-26 The last step was the deepest 10/11/24report
The wet spot up close to the right? That looked innocent and dry, and was the wettest, deepest quicksandy quicksand in this section.

My guess? The stream centered here when it flowed, and carved away the softer ground, which later settled with the silty sandy quick stuff. But just a guess.
Photo: 05-25 First round footsteps 10/11/24report
There's suction at depth, but... kinda a depth-limited quicksand, with a dry top layer.
1
Photo: 05-24 A painted boot10/11/24report
Oh, no! The flood height was maybe 10 feet or more above the ground level. It's probably the more common water level, though?

Yes! That was the deep mud that destroyed the zip in the last pair of boots! Well... where I noticed the zip fail, anyway!
